As I looked for images to share on my post, I found these two pictures on my phone. They’re both images of flowers that I love – the sunshiny allamanda shot in Varca, Goa and the fallen flower, a frangipani, from a path near my home. These photographs inspired me to reflect on the phrase – bloom today.
Bloom Today

While I make sure I rest adequately, there are days I just want to kick back and give up all my efforts to write and create. I just want to sit around and read all day – and hope that someone else will pick up after me. I’m blessed that if I really want to do that, I only have to ask and José will oblige. But no, he does enough already and we’re equal partners with regard to household chores.
These days, I’m constantly pushing myself a little more. To learn, to write, to take up writing challenges. I keep reminding myself that today is all I have. No looking back with regrets. No looking forward with expectations. As they say, tomorrow is another day and it I don’t know what it has in store for me.
“Bloom today,” I say to myself, “for you may not have an opportunity to do so tomorrow!”
The Song ‘Today’
I recall this song sung by The New Christy Minstrels in the ’60s and later by John Denver and several others.
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine.
A million tomorrows shall all pass away, ‘ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today.
I’ll be a dandy and I’ll be a rover, you’ll know who I am by the songs that I sing.
I’ll feast at your table, I’ll sleep in your clover, who cares what tomorrow shall bring?
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine.
A million tomorrows shall all pass away, ‘ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today.
I can’t be contented with yesterday’s glory, I can’t live on promises winter to spring.
Today is my moment, and now is my story, I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing.

The prompt for Kate Motaung’s 10 Day Writing Prompt challenge is : Today. The challenge is to freewrite for five minutes each day. I will be sharing some of this writing on the blog but not in the order of the challenge.

Beautiful flowers. Amazing where they can grow at times too.
Love the video. I remember that song very well, but I’m very old.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous day. ♥

So true about the flowers!

I learned the song in the ’80s and sang it with a choir!
Thanks for creating a wonderful blog hop, Sandee.

Thanks, Rajlakshmi. Growing up we called these flowers buttercups, but they’re not!

What a lovely post, as always Cory. And thanks for sharing this gem of a song with me on #wordlessWednesday/WednesdayWisdom.
I have chosen to just be these days, as I’ve been pushing back a lot. Though I more often than not feel like you. And who knows if tomorrow comes or not…
Having said that, I’m working on the power of pause and to just be.
As that’s the only way ! can recover from my surgery.
How on earth did that rhyme! lol
Have a playful weekend. <3

I’ve begun to enjoy Wordless Wednesday though my posts are far from wordless and the addition of music is making it more fun!

You’ve had a very challenging year, so it’s important for you to take it nice and slow and spend time on healing. Hugs, Natz. Have a restful weekend.

The Allamanda is of such a cheerful color — sunny yellow! A lovely pictorial rep for “Blooming”.
Today, I let the day flow slow and as the mood required. Maybe a part healed, a part hurt, a part bloomed and a part was let off ……. net net I grew a little today
Yes, I am partial to yellow, Monika.
Slow days are such an important part of life – we don’t take enough time for them, do we? Thank you for stopping by and sharing!
