Several years ago, when a blogger friend who was suffering from mental illness and was at a very low phase, I wrote this for her to remind her of her worth. You is kind, is part of a link from The Help, a book that was very popular at the time I wrote this.
I realize that the situation and my words could apply to many people going through a hard time right now.
You Is Kind
Dear Friend
Even though we live so far away from each other and have never met, we do have a strong connection. I read your posts and know how hard it must be for your to face each day. The past constantly comes back to haunt your mind. The trauma of it is something that you keep re-living. And your present situation both emotionally and financially, makes it so hard to carry on.
It’s easy for me to say, “Hang in there, everything will be alright.” I’m not facing your reality. I don’t have to put food on the table, even as I struggle with my mental health. You do.
Yet, in every interaction we’ve had, you’ve been nothing but kind and understanding. You are highly intelligent and very articulate. The way you reach out to others who have suffered abuse as you have, is touching. You are a very powerful voice for victims of sexual abuse (especially) and domestic violence. Having lived through this you know their pain, and can articulate it.
Today, I know that you are at the point of giving up. But let me remind you, that there are so many of us who are willing you to carry on. Wanting you to see the beauty inside you that we see. Rooting for you to come out of your shell and truly shine!
Today I borrow from the character of Aibileen Clark from ‘The Help‘. I know they were meant for you!
You is kind. You is smart. You is important.

A A Milne said something similar and I’m holding you to this today.
Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
With all my love.

That was so beautifully written Corinne! I had a lump in my throat.
How often we fail to remind ourselves about ourselves, isn’t it?
I hope your letter helped your friend face her tough times. I hope it gave her strength to deal with her demons.
Thanks for this lovely post. ♡
I love that quote from The Help. Sometimes all one needs is for someone to tell them that they are good and smart and can handle whatever comes their way.
