Although I’ve had it on my Kindle for the longest time, it was only recently that I read Shonda Rhime’s ‘Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person’. In case you don’t know already, Shonda is the writer of the award winning series, Grey’s Anatomy! I know now why I was drawn to reading the book this year – it was the Universe nudging me towards making 2021 a year of yes!
2021 A Year of Yes
When I talked of the lessons I learned in 2020, I spoke of learning to take care of myself and that often meant saying ‘no’. Just yesterday, we were invited to a birthday party two houses away and I said thank you, but no thank you. My health (and theirs) is too important to have said ‘yes’.
As I read just this morning, ‘sometimes saying no others allows you to say yes to yourself!’
In 2021, I want to start saying ‘yes’ to a lot of ideas, dreams and plans that I’ve been putting off. I want to start daring to put myself out there a lot more. Sometimes, I hesitate to take up things. Or I take them up and abandon them before I’ve really put my heart and soul into it. 2021 is the year that I say a loud ‘Yes’ to me.

“Yes to everything scary.
Shonda Rhimes
Yes to everything that takes me out of my comfort zone.
Yes to everything that feels like it might be crazy.
Yes to everything that feels out of character.
Yes to everything that feels goofy.
Yes to everything.
Everything.
Say yes.
Yes.
Speak. Speak NOW.
“Yes,” I say. “Yes”

A year of yes – that’s beautifully put. I have chosen my WOTY in similar lines, Corrinne. I hope the coming year is a year of putting plans into actions. I will look up the book as well, just the kind of stuff I am liking to read this days

That’s right, Sunita! Thank you!
Yes you can ! Itās wonderful to be able to stand up for yourself but itās also tough when youāve been conditioned to put others before you .
Hope you can live up to your WOTY and have a peaceful, healthful and productive 2021. Take care .

This sounds unique. Saying YES to all the things we are scared of doing or thinking. Wow! I like it. I think I need to try saying YES, too, to so many things I have always said NO to. š
I am a dreamer and want to achieve so much for myself but get scared to attempt. This year, I have decided I will say āyesā more than doubt myself. I wish you also achieve all that you wish for yourself, Corinne. Wishing you the best for 2021.
What an uplifting, positive word for 2021! I love it. We need more “yes” in the world.

I’m in a similar place as I read your “Yes”. My WOTY is Courage. The courage to face my fears, to shift my long held beliefs, to be my true self. I wasn’t aware of you link party, but I’ll be looking at a few to see other’s WOTY choices.
Yes, to what matters and what is pertinent and not to be procrastinated for latter. And no to all that which doesn’t count.

Fabulous one, Cory. Hope the year grows to be wonderful and expansive.

Hi Corinne – that’s quite a challenge you’ve set for yourself! Saying Yes to new and exciting opportunities, and to silliness, adventure, and discovery. It all sounds wonderful and I’ll be interested to watch how you grow through it in the year ahead.
What a simple yet profound word is that! I wish you a year filled with an abundance of peace and happiness and tons of moments and opportunities for you to say YES to. Wishing you the best, Corinne!

What a fabulous way of looking at things Corinne, the word yes allows us so much freedom in many ways. My word is BOLD, here’s to living a bolder life and saying yes is a part of that I think!
I love how you turned saying no to the birthday party into a yes to you and your health. Good for you. I’m rooting for you as you say “Yes” to your ideas, dreams, and plans. If not now when? Go for it! You got it!
