Summer is around the corner. What a horrible time the last year has been. Besides disrupting the economy, COVID-19 had far-reaching impacts on the family and, even more so on the young children who couldn’t understand what was happening. The sudden change of lifestyle, massive deaths of loved ones, and loss of income had a significant toll on most people’s mental wellbeing. Today, cases of suicide, depression, and anxiety are on the rise. Now that things are slowly gaining momentum, you should take advantage of the summer season to get out for a bit of sunshine and some fun family time. Although the prevailing hard times may not allow you to get out of your town for a family trip, there are many activities you can do in your hometown that will leave the family entertained and relaxed. What are you planning for your family this summer? Here a few ideas:
What Are You Planning for Your Family This Summer?
Fishing
The weather in summer is friendly for fishing. This could be a perfect opportunity for your family to explore the shore, unwind and have fun taking memorable pictures, enjoying some sun and a little swim.
Carry fundamental fishing essentials such as a bucket or stringer to store the fish, a pair of needle-nosed pliers, a small towel, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Stay where there is a high concentration of fish so that the children can catch something and use appropriate fishing methods such as working the rig.
Make sure you engage your kids in the entire process, such as getting the bait, how to tie a hook and how to cast. Also, don’t forget to appreciate them for any catch and encourage them to keep going.
Biking
It would be so much fun to tour the town on bikes as a family. Besides the fun part of it, biking has many health benefits essential to every member of the family.
To make it more memorable, you can request a few families from the neighborhood to join the tour. Children love such adventures and will so much appreciate a chance to ride with their friends.
You could opt to ride to a camping site within the town for a night out or do a riding competition and reward the winners.

Painting
If you are still reluctant about getting out of your home compound due to the ongoing pandemic, you can opt to engage in a family painting fun day at the comfort of your home. To make it easy to paint the outsides and use washable paint that’s less harmful and easy to clean. Working outside gives you the freedom to paint anything to use any medium of your choice, like cardboards or blocks. The good thing about this activity is that it challenges the children’s mind and helps them learn and have fun.
You don’t have to spend a million to make summertime memorable for your family.
We’ve not seen our grands and great grands for over a year. That’s something we want to do. We also have lots of cruises planned this summer. Some places (marinas) are open again and it will be good to get out on the water and enjoy what we love to do.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥
