Memories light the corners of my mind
Misty water color memories
Of the way we were.……
(Lyrics of a Barbra Streisand song)

On my recent trip to my parents’ home, I was sorting out old papers and stuff that I had left behind before I moved to Mumbai. Among the papers I found a diary – started in 1981 – in it I had painstakingly written out stories and poems that inspired me – notes from religious seminars I had attended, birthdays to be remembered…… It brought back a lot of memories and also got me thinking of the way I was.
It’s amazing how some things and people can be so important to us at a particular time in life….and then we move on…..and often outgrow things and people. Sometimes, we look back and think of how we seemingly wasted our time and energies on things and people that don’t seem important anymore. But I don’t think, any of it is ever wasted and therefore we should have no regrets.
Today, as I look back at the way I was ….the various stages on the journey to who I am (still many more stages to go) and I am nothing but grateful. Nothing and no one was a waste of time. Every choice, every person, every experience was just the way it was meant to be and I give thanks.
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.” – Thornton Wilder
