The recent Covid-19 pandemic has made 2020 one of the most difficult years for many people. In addition to the millions who have had the virus affect their health, it has also had a major impact on the rest of the world. Lockdowns have been taking place everywhere, and many people have had to make considerable changes to how they live, see others and shop.
The stress of the pandemic has also likely led to many people losing sleep. Also, the many lockdowns and closures have likely led to many people falling out of their exercise routine. In an effort to help, this article is going to go over some sleep guidelines and exercise tips to stay sane during the lockdown.
Sleep Guidelines and Tips

The pandemic has made sleeping difficult for a number of reasons. Most of us are quite stressed, our daily lives have been disrupted and most of us are spending a lot more time on our screens, which can hurt the quality and amount of sleep we are getting.
Despite all of this, it is important that everyone tries to get the recommended amount of sleep. This might seem difficult, but there are thankfully some ways to assist yourself in getting better sleep during these trying times.
First of all, it’s possible that your sleeping issues are related to things other than the pandemic. For example, your mattress, sheets or pillows might be low quality. A bad mattress that is wrong for your body can make it tough to fall and stay asleep. Be sure to check out this article to learn a little more about some of the best mattresses for your needs.
If your bed and pillows are good, and you’re still struggling, don’t worry, there are some things to try. One of the best things to do is try to keep a strict sleeping schedule. If you have a consistent sleep schedule and routine, it can give you a sense of normalcy and can improve the quality of your sleep. If you consistently sleep and wake at different times, your body will find it hard to adjust.
Another thing to keep in mind is to relax yourself before bed. If you try to sleep after watching an action-packed and bright movie, you shouldn’t be surprised when your sleep is poor. Find ways to wind down before bed such as having a bath, reading a book or meditating. You should also attempt to eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins and nutrients.
Exercise Tips During Lockdown
Many gyms and fitness centers closed down for multiple months during the pandemic, and this led to millions of people to fall out of their workout routines. However, exercise still remains just as important as ever. It keeps you healthy, has many benefits to your mental health and can keep your body in good condition.

Whether your gym has opened back up, or whether you decide to work out at home, you need to find time to exercise at least a few times a week. Wherever you work out, it is important to start slow. If you try and go back to lifting weights how you were before the pandemic, you have a much better chance of hurting yourself.
Take time to build yourself back up, as rushing it and injuring yourself will only slow the process down even more. Also, while it might be hard to get back into the groove, you need to keep at it. If you remain persistent, going to the gym will once again feel like a part of your life, and no longer a chore.
Also, don’t be afraid to get creative with your workouts. Keeping things fun, different and exciting can help you stay motivated. Times are different, and your old routine may no longer be viable (especially if you used to work out in a group).
Staying Well Rested and Fit During the Pandemic
Ensuring you are getting a quality sleep and enough exercise during the current pandemic and lockdowns is very important. The information and tips outlined in this article will be able to get you back on the right track with both your sleep and exercise routines.
Both of these are so important to lead a healthy life. My mom has been facing some issues with sleep recently although she leads a very active life, walks around 12K steps, exercises with me and does a lot of housework. She started having some turmeric milk at night and reading a book, also changed the bedroom where she was sleeping and its better since a day. Hopefully it lasts. My workout routine has been progressing much better than before the lockdown and this is one thing I will surely count as an achievement in 2020 :).
Sorry to hear about your Mom, Aks. Could she be stressed about this whole situation.

Glad that you’re doing great with your workouts!

Great tips! I’ve been trying to get to the park to walk as much as possible before the cold weather comes in. I always sleep better at night if I exercise during the day.
Good luck, Michelle.

A fantastic post this is, Corinne.
A lot of people are going through a tumultuous ride around their health & mental wellness, thanks to the pandemic.
Lack of sleep & exercise owing either due to disrupted work times at home & bingeing on shows is a huge cause.
You’re right when you say that exercise should be made to feel fun by modifying the ways in better places.
Yes, I get how the emotional is affecting the physical and vice versa during this pandemic. So important for us to keep healthy in every way.
