I’ve been having a few health issues that have resulted in me feeling low both physically and emotionally. This has but my work schedule out of whack and it lead me to feel guilty about not keeping up with my blogs. But the plus side of this is that I’m doing more things to restore life’s balance – eating healthy, taking my meds on time, walking, sleeping, reading and coloring a lot more.
Instead of feeling stress or guilt, I’ve started to feel grateful for this wake up call to take better care of myself.
Restore Life’s Balance
How easy it is to forget the important things in life! How very easy to lose oneself trying to push forward with work and goals. But what use are goals and targets if we are killing ourselves to achieve them.
Rabbi Michael Leo Samuel tells this story from Lettie Cowman‘s book Springs in the Valley :
“In the deep jungles of Africa, a traveler was making a long trek. Coolies had been engaged from a tribe to carry the loads. The first day they marched rapidly and went far. The traveler had high hopes of a speedy journey. But the second morning these jungle tribesmen refused to move. For some strange reason they just sat and rested. On inquiry as to the reason for this strange behavior, the traveler was informed that they had gone too fast the first day, and that they were now waiting for their souls to catch up with their bodies.
Then Mrs. Cowman concludes with this penetrating exhortation: “This whirling rushing life which so many of us live does for us what that first march did for those poor jungle tribesmen. The difference: they knew what they needed to restore life’s balance; too often we do not.”
Today, I’m reminding you to allow your soul to catch up with your body. Just relax. Just Be.

That’s true. We should rest for sometime instead of continously rushing to meet our goals in life. As we mature, we understand that health is important than anything else.
“Waiting for their souls to catch up with their bodies”… how beautiful and meaningful that is! True, in our mad rush to accomplish our goals and to succeed on all fronts, we often fail to understand the importance of having balance in our lives. We realize its importance when we are reaching our burnout.
I pray you recover well in time and soon,Corinne. Such a lovely post this. So much in sync with what’s going on in my mind. It constantly hits pause and prefers to slow down except for gaming purposes.
I decided to take a break from Social Media and most of the online stuff I’m into and focus just in blogging. Mainly because writing helps me accept myself and great myself. With my little one growing up so soon, I wish I used the mobile lesser. I could relate to this in a way I know.
The more we want to do and be a part of something, the more we tend to lose ourselves. I found this recently with myself. So I decided to take a break and then add then add slowly. I missed reading blogs a lot in general this year. I missed yours truly. Glad I’m back to reading and writing before the end of this year to restore myself in a better way.

Yikes! Speedy Recovery…
My health status is a constant reminder of how much I neglected myself when I was younger! I wish I had the leisure to take a step back and view my life as a third person. I would have noticed that I need to take breaks from LIFE! Finding that balance is so tough!
‘Waiting for our souls to catch up with our bodies’ is a new way to look at things for me and I find it so true. I wish you fast recovery with all the meds and relaxation techniques.
