It doesn’t matter how many times you have already moved house, but you will always seem to find something that you wish that you would have done differently or things that you won’t ever do again. It can be one of the most stressful things that you can do, and there are many different things to organize and plan. But getting a few things in place can make a real difference. So here are some ideas and tips to help you with organizing, planning and preparing for a household move.
Organizing, Planning and Preparing for a Household Move
# 1 Prepare and Plan
One of the first things that you can do is to make a list of the things that you can plan and prepare for, when it comes to a move. If you want to create a plan, then work backwards from all of the things that you need to do. When do you plan to move, and then plan backwards, with things that need to be done a few days before the move, and then a few weeks before, and so on. Having a plan can also help to relieve any stress in your life and it can help you to get through the next steps, without too much stress, overwhelm, or frustration
#2 Hire movers, or move yourself?
There is a decision that needs to be made sooner rather than later, as you’ll need to have some help when it comes to moving. But will you just hire a van and have friends help, or will you look to hire movers instead? There are pros and cons to both, which you can learn more about online, but either way, you need to decide quickly, once you know your moving date, as these things can booked up quite quickly. So don’t delay preparing for a household move.
# 3 A moving budget
One of the things that you need to think about is how much you will need to budget for the move. The house and legal fees is one thing, but moving day does need a whole budget of its own. Most of us don’t seem to think that they need a budget, but it can make a difference. But planning ahead and budgeting can help you to stick with the budget that you have and make sure that costs don’t spiral out of control. You don’t want to end up with that costing you a whole lot of money.

#4 Sorting your stuff
Moving is such a good time to sort through different things, and it can help you to decide what things you need to take along with you. Sorting through the things that you need to take with you can be really therapeutic as well. It can be a good time to giveaway or sell things that you won’t be able to take with you, and that extra cash can some in really handy with the move, of course. Decluttering can make such a difference, and mean that you are only packing and taking the things to your new home that you really need and want.

I love moving to a new place and the all the things that come with this package. We have moved some 10 times in 22 years of our marriage. I love the idea of settling in a new place, planning, organising and arranging and all the jing bang…. We have always used Movers & Packers, so quite a lot is sorted by them but the major task of de-cluttering is what I love the most. It’s been a while since we have changed our base, and I cant wait to change that 😀

I love moving! I love the idea of resetting and rearranging and then buying new stuff when required. We have moved at least 8 times till now and we used movers to pack and move the stuff. But of course, the unpacking is back-breaking stuff. Some really good tips here.

Moving is so hard! I’m so thankful we haven’t had to move in a long time. The packaging and trying to remember which box is which used to drive me nuts! These are great tips, though.

The thought of moving gives me anxiety. Yes, it does require a lot of planning else the whole process becomes even more stressful. I do agree that it is a great opportunity to declutter. My last move was this time around last year, when I was pregnant. Had to plan to for month before making the actual move

I was thinking about this last night, when I wrote the first post on my new blog. I don’t think I ever want to move again. 🙂 I would rather spend the time and money traveling, and maintaining the home we’ve built here. I still have the wanderlust, but moving house is a chore and a half, and ours is almost paid off.
