Understanding your personality type can help you to better understand your strengths and weaknesses. It can also help you to interact with others and to find your role in society. Here are just a few different personality indicators that could be worth trying out.
What Is Your Personality Type?
Name numerology
One way of finding out your personality could be to calculate your name with numerology.
It is believed that our name can tell us a lot about our personality including our cultural background, the way we were raised and the challenges we faced growing up. Each letter has its own vibration, which can help to determine your personality. These letters correspond to numbers, which can be added up. These can then be reduced to a single-digit number or ‘master number’ (such as 11 or 22). From this master number, you can work out your unique personality traits.
There are sites online that you can use to calculate your name. Some of these involve also using your birth date and your surname to get a more accurate idea of what your name says about you.
Name numerology dates back to Ancient Greece. Pythagorus is known to have invested specific numbers with mystical properties and believed that maths could be used to explain everything in life from the sphericity of the earth to our personalities.
Zodiac signs
A common personality indicator is the 12 zodiac signs. These include Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
The zodiac signs originate from Baylonian astronomy and relate to various constellations found throughout the night’s sky, each occupying a 30 degree sector of the ecliptic. Each constellation is visible at a specific time of the year – whichever sign is most visible at the time of your birth is your zodiac sign and is thought to influence your personality.
Signs can be used to better understand one’s strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Leos are described as being playful and protective but egoistic and controlling, while Virgos are analytical and tender while also timid and indecisive.
Zodiac signs are commonly used to determine the compatibility of relationships. Some people may even choose to only date people of certain signs (there are even dating sites that integrate astrological sign matchmaking).
You can find out which sign corresponds to your birthday online. There are also plenty of online resources that detail the traits of each sign. Many horoscopes rely on zodiac astrology – there are plenty of sites on the web that offer daily horoscopes.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
The Myers-Briggs personality type indicator tends to be seen as a more scientific approach to personality. It is sometimes used by employers during the hiring process to see if an applicant is the right fit for the company.
There are 16 types of personality in this indicator – each one is a series of four letters. The first letter is either ‘E’ or ‘I’ and stands for ‘extrovert’ or ‘introvert’. The second letter is either ‘N’ or ‘S’ and stands for ‘intuitive’ or ‘sensing’. The third letter is either ‘F’ or ‘T’ and stands for ‘feeling’ or ‘thinking’. The final letter meanwhile is either ‘J’ or ‘P’ and stands for ‘judging’ or ‘perceiving’.
To determine your personality type, you must take a multiple choice test. This involves various situational questions that help to gage the type of person that you are. There are free tests that you can take online.
There are plenty of resources online dedicated to each personality type and its strengths and its weaknesses. MBTI personality types can be used to work out everything from your best suited careers to your compatibility in relationships.
The Myers-Briggs personality type indicator was established in the 1940s by Katherine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. It is based on an earlier conceptual theory by Carl Jung. A closely linked personality type indicator is the Keirsey Temperament Sorter which prescribes different names for each personality type such as ‘healer’ and ‘provider’.
Which personality type indicator should I use?
Each personality type indicator is very different and each of them can be intriguing to look into. However, you may find that you trust a certain indicator over others. If you’re the spiritual type, you may find that you connect more with the Zodiac system. If you put your belief in numbers, name numerology may seem more reliable to you. If you have more confidence in the studies of psychologists, then the Myers-Briggs personality indicator may have more of an interest to you.
I have always been interested in psychology and was my subsidiary at university. Will definitely try these tests in between housework. Cheers.
Interesting! I was aware of the numerology and zodiac sign aspects of personality traits. I used to be hooked to Linda Goodman way back in my college days! The Myers-Briggs test is quite intriguing!
