There is no denying the importance of marketing today. It does not matter what industry you are operating in or how long you have been established, you need to make sure you are marketing your business effectively. With that in mind, in this blog post, we are going to take a look at some of the most common marketing mistakes that people make, so that you can avoid making them too.
Marketing Mistakes You Need To Avoid
Using outdated techniques – There is only one place to begin, and this is with using techniques that are now out of date. These techniques often include black hat techniques, which goes against the policy that Google has in place. These tactics will manipulate the search engine bots in order to try and reach the top spots. However, this is only going to get your website punished in the long run, and so it is really not worth it. Examples of these sorts of techniques that you really need to avoid include keyword stuffing and the use of white text to incorporate excessive keywords into your website.
Having a limited approach – Another mistake that a lot of people make when it comes to marketing is having a limited approach. This means that you only use one or two marketing methods, instead of using several. Nowadays, you need to use different methods and you need to make sure they are integrated so that they are designed to work together. Deploy automation scripts for Google Ads, use social media marketing, connect via email… the list goes on and on!
Spreading yourself too thin on social media – When it comes to social media, it is impossible to set up accounts on all of the different platforms that are out there. Instead, you need to do research to find out where your customers are and you need to target these platforms instead if you are going to see the best possible results.
Not gathering feedback – Aside from the errors that have been discussed so far, another mistake that a lot of people and businesses make is failing to collect valuable data. The only way you are going to continue to improve your marketing plan and enhance the customer experience you provide is if you measure the results of it and analyse the data.
Copying the competition – Finally, while it is a good idea to look into what the competition is doing – do not directly copy. You can use their efforts for inspiration. You can also use their efforts to find out what works and what does not, but never simply copy.
As you can see, there are a number of common mistakes that people tend to make when it comes to marketing their business. The best thing that you can do is to learn from other people’s mistakes, rather than making these errors yourself.

That’s an informative post Corinne. I see many people don’t realize where their customers are – from which place and from which social media platforms they can benefit from.
I am terrible at marketing my blog posts and that I am tech challenged does not help matters either. Need to learn a lot. Thanks for an informative and insightful post, Corinne.
These are great ideas Corinne to be ahead of the curve and agree on targeted audience for maximum reach and not limiting oneself.
Very informative post Corinne. It’s so important to be up to date in terms of technology . The current algorithms are very smart. No dodgy stuff is tolerated. With many options available for traffic analysis, it has now become easier to find out where the
major readers are coming from.
