When you head away on a road trip, there can be a temptation to let some of your personal routines slip away. Whether we letting our eating habits slip or we are spending a little too much time behind the wheel, there is always something bad that could creep in. If you are an avid fan of meditation, you should keep this up when travelling on your road trip. Here are some of the ways you can meditate on a road trip.
How to Meditate on a Road Trip
Practice Breathing
One of the easiest ways to get a little meditation session in is to practice your breathing. This can be especially important if your road trip is becoming a little stressful. You could be stuck in traffic or facing bad weather conditions. Choosing to take a moment to breath is one of the easiest ways to let things go and focus on the task ahead of you.
It could be as simple as holding a breath for a count of five or you could try one of the many established meditative breathing practices. Find something which is easy for you to do that can be pushed to the back of your mind. Before you know it, you could feel much calmer.
Grab It When You Can
Road trips can sometimes have strict itineraries and this can make it harder to find a moment to meditate. Therefore, you should always be on the lookout for a moment to meditate where you can. If you are particularly mindful of the environment, you might have an electric or hybrid car. Grab a few moment’s peace at a charging station! It can be as simple and as easy as that.
Are you stopping somewhere for a hike or to see some other attraction? Instead of immediately driving away when you are finished, you should instead find a place to sit down and meditate for a bit. Grabbing a few moments here and there is really going to make a difference.
Take a Moment Before You Go to Sleep
What if you are on the go from the moment you open your eyes? Some people like to pack their days with activities and lots of things to do. While this can be great for you in terms of keeping you busy on a road trip, it doesn’t leave much room for meditation. However, there is one moment when you can chill out and do nothing; when you go to sleep.
As part of your wind-down routine, you should grab a few minutes of meditation. It can be as simple as sitting in your hotel room and letting the worries of the day slip away from you. Even if you are camping in your car, you will be able to grab a quick meditation this way.
Don’t let your road trip get in the way of your self-care. If you feel the need to relax, there will always be a way for you to get that bit of meditation you need each day.

I am big on meditation… it has worked wonders for me. I never considered meditating while on a road trip. Got to try it the next time.

Living in the moment–whether I am eating, reading or drawing–are my ways of meditating. And, yes, focusing on my breathing is an important part of my meditative moments. While riding in the passenger seat of the car, or riding in the bus, there are moments when I suddenly remember to breathe while taking in the sights around me!
These are such good advice during trips Corinne and taking breathe to the count of 5 is such a good way during a tiring trip. I try meditating for five minutes but need to make it more regular. Also, calm is an app is a good way. Thanks for sharing this post.
