I had actually chosen Healing With Words as my theme for May, but as I explained in my last word of the year update, it didn’t work out. I decided to adopt it for June.
One of the movies I loved watching in April was Where The Crawdads Sing – such an unusual and haunting story. I’ve had the book in my Kindle for a year, but haven’t got down to reading it yet. Anyway, this particular line by the main protagonist, a girl who wasn’t literate until adulthood, struck me and underlined the power of words.
“I wasn’t aware that words could hold so much. I didn’t know a sentence could be so full.”
― Delia Owens, Where the Crawdads Sing
What I Wrote In My Bullet Journal At The Start Of The Month
Words are powerful. They can affect the way we see others and the way we see ourselves and the world.
Words are such a part of me – they’ve always been my go-to – first through reading and later through writing. It is through words that I’ve learned and been inspired and encouraged. Words have hurt me, but they’ve healed me too. Big time. It is through my practice of Morning Pages that my healing really began.
In June, I will focus more on words – read a lot more, write a lot more.
I will revel in words.
I will listen to more podcasts, audiobooks and music.
I will absorb more words.
Also focus on making my words matter in my writing, commenting and all connections.
I will write meaningful words.
Healing With Words In June
The month went well overall. I did spend more time reading and writing. And some time learning.
I committed to participating in a five day course by Dr Zoe Shaw on using Instagram meaningfully. I stuck with it. It really gave me a fresh insight not just into Instagram, but into my writing as a whole.
I moved my Substack newsletters into a weekly mode and changed the publishing day to Monday. I’ve been quite regular with that. You can read the latest issue here and subscribe for updates.
Meeting with people in person and connecting on the phone too has been something that I’ve struggled with. Since this is also connected to healing and words, in June, I went out of my comfort zone a few times to meet with people and really enjoyed each meeting.
Peace and joy is what I feel about my work and we get into July, I’m excited to read, learn and write more meaningfully and systematically.
How was June for you?
Writing To Heal
For me, writing has been the best way to process my hurts and start healing. I would love to help you, dear reader, to find a way to heal through your writing. Do contact me and we can chat about this.

Words have immense power in them. I am happy to note peace and joy were the mainstay of June for you and July comes in with a sense of excitement.
As for me, your post inspires me to begin writing morning pages in addition to the practice of gratitude journaling and writing positive affirmations which I have been doing on and off in the month of June.

Thank you, Anamika. I’d love to know how you get on with the Morning Pages practice once you start it. For me, as I’m sure you know with my constant song about them, they’ve been life changing!
Words are my most powerful tool, too. This year, I’ve been increasingly mindful of the words I use when speaking to or about myself. I’ve always found it easy to be kind to others, but I’ve too often failed to offer myself that same level of grace. I’m changing that– one thought and one sentence at a time.
Where the Crawdads Sing is a beautiful movie. For me to love a book or a film, I need to feel invested in the characters. That one certainly delivered.
I love what you say about the words you speak to and about yourself. That’s something I’m working on too. Removing old scripts of regret, guilt and censor is a quite a feat, isn’t it? I’m glad there are kind souls like you in the world to show me the way! ♥
Felt so calm reading this.
And can you beat this. Was reading an article on Julia Cameron, just now.

Meanwhile, enjoyed “Where the Crawdad’s Sing”. It is indeed hauntingly awe-inspiring.
I’ve had the book for a while now but never managed to read it more than a few pages. I found the film inspiring in more ways than one.
I’m so happy to hear about the wonderful things you commit to with words, for your healing. May light always shine above and beyond you. <3
