I’ve sometimes taken the stand that I don’t want to talk about negative things or even consume them – by reading newspapers, watching television or sharing such things on my timeline. However, I realized that it’s not the best of ideas to live life in an ivory tower away from the reality of what’s happening in the world. While I realize that sharing of political and religious views can lead to arguments and misunderstanding, I do believe that we must take a stand. We must be aware, we must share our views and we must stand up for what we believe in.
This is especially true when we take a stand for the marginalized, the misunderstood and those bear the brunt of the deeds and choices of some members of their community even when they don’t subscribe to those views. More and more I am convinced that good is worth fighting for.
Good Is Worth Fighting For
In the last 6 months, I’ve had the privilege of working with an organisation that strongly believes in fighting for good – especially for the rights of children. My daily interactions with men and women who are working to protect and empower children, reaffirms my belief in good in the world.
When I meet an IG of Police who is convinced that every single member of the police force must be trained in Child Sexual Abuse, it makes me less cynical. When I am told that the Chief Justice of a state is ready to meet with children in difficult circumstances and take on board their views, I am inspired.
When I see so many individuals and families make an effort to celebrate their birthdays, spend the days off teaching and being with children who are in care homes, my belief in goodness is reaffirmed.
In the recent past, I’ve watched how people around the world have taken a stand on refugees. Some countries have welcomed them with open arms. People in countries that haven’t, have at personal cost, spoken out for refugees – fighting against their government and public opinion.

Amen. Good will always triumph and it only will if we fight for it. It’s worth it.
Good is definitely worth fighting for. It’s important to remember that there is still so much good out there. Sounds like a wonderful organisation. Very inspiring.
If we don’t fight for good, evil will win. We can all do our part, no matter how young or old. It gives me chills knowing that my developmentally disabled brother in law even realizes this, on his level.
So true, Alana. We don’t have a choice, do we? I do hope yesterday’s events vis-a-vis the healthcare bill work in his favour.
As much as I believe in it and seeing people fighting for it, there is a fear in my heart, and a deeply rooted one, that evil is rising and people are changing colors, too fast, too often.
Still, there’s always hope.
We must be aware, we must share our views and we must stand up for what we believe in.
This is going to be in my mind. I too avoid negatibe news but I try to be aware .Let the light of sense shine .Loved reading this
Yes, definitely worth fighting for. Else, evil will prevail. Can we really afford to have a world full of bad stuff? And at the current rate at which everything’s going, one needs to keep faith and work towards the good. Excellent post!
It’s so important to fight for good in the world. I’m grateful to be living in Canada, which embraces multiculturalism and more enlightened thinking than some of its contemporaries. Most of us are shocked and saddened to see what is happening south of our border.
I feel it is a time in India now that we all will be fighting for some very important causes. I am basically an agriculturist and need for water, organic food and also some help to our farmers is what I have seriously been raising my voice for. It is necessary to shout out – especially in this changing era!
Hey Corinne, I think you are right. I am same like you and better keep off from news rather than going mad at it. I do not watch news channel and keep myself away from political and religious conversations online. But yes, I do take stand of my own beliefs.
Glad you find an organization who works whole heartily towards Kids. Compassion always makes the world beautiful.
Corinne, I can’t imagine dealing with victims of child abuse everyday, and so admire people who can. To me, there’s nothing sadder, but more worthy of dedicating one’s life to.
Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
