At the risk of sounding trivial, I’d like to say that I find the run up to elections rather entertaining. Whether it’s the American elections or the elections in India – two of the world’s largest democracies – they never cease to amuse. For me, elections are fun!
I know it’s serious business and I do take voting seriously, but it’s all the talk by politicans and panelists that can be so funny at times. I guess the American public has had their share of ‘binders full of women‘ and ‘you didn’t build that” for this election. In India, we are already getting ready for our general elections in 2014 – or earlier if the Government falls. The entertainment has already begun with the ‘mango people‘ and skeletons being hauled out of the cupboards of all political parties and politicians!
I love watching the debates – I caught all three on TV/internet and the talk shows and all those fantastic predictions that are invariably totally wrong – because in the end it’s truly the votes that count! 🙂
Here’s a good cartoon from an Indian cartoonist which could be relevant to politics anywhere.
I’m responding to today’s prompt for NaBloPoMo: What are your thoughts about tomorrow’s election in the United States?
Do you enjoy the elections as much as I do?
I’m the last person to like politics or the elections Corinne!
Yes, I do love the ping pongs and debates they have, though limit myself to watching them or I tend to get carried away. 🙂
Looking forward to the U.S elections too, though I wonder what the results would really be. I’m sure most of our friends based in the U.S. too would be able to throw more light to the happenings there.
Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Loved that toon at the end! Elections are funny. In-spite of losing a lot of money, a country like India gets ready for new thiefs, hoping they turn out to be good people. Sigh.

I have never seen politics uglier than it is today here in America. The candidates are polarizing our nation and tearing it at the very fabric and I just hope who ever is elected will make serious efforts to unite this nation…because the dividing has gone on far too long.

What I like the most about elections is the way they tom-tom about every little they do..it is so funny 😀

Politics is not my cup of tea! So, I stay away from such political debates et al. Last evening finished reading Anuja Chauhan’s Battle for Bittora and it was one insightful book about Indian politics… The amount of money spend during elections and on what all things and the frenemies, the scams…

Let’s see the way America votes today!

Shilpa,

Anuja’s book is an eye opener. Even in the US ,a lot if money is spent on elections.Perhaps, colour is different .

You’re right about it being completely hilarious in a completely un-funny way! By the way, the Indian cartoon works pretty well for the 2008 US elections!!
