My question to you is:
Do You Want To Be Perfect?
I think somewhere down the line we all buy into a myth, sold to us by people who are miserable. In overt or subtle ways we’re told – ‘You’ve got to try to be perfect.” So we try, and of course we fail, and naturally we’re miserable. And since we don’t like to be miserable alone, we sell the concept to some other poor souls and the cycle continues!
“All perfectionism is, is the 20-ton shield that we carry around hoping that it will keep us from being hurt,” ~ Brené Brown
Sometime ago, I decided that I’m breaking the cycle. I’m not perfect, never will be and I’m not even going to try. It is not a negative choice. Rather, it’s an absolute relief.
Now, instead of trying to be perfect, I’m just aiming to be ME. To enjoy my life as it is and discover more and more my inner self – that’s the journey I’m on. It’s challenging and chaotic at times but it’s rewarding. And the best part, as I journey within myself, I begin to realize my dreams and goals.
I don’t have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect and beautiful journey of my life. It’s a trip more wonderful than I could have imagined. ~ Kerry Washington
