Day 2 of 31 Days of Inspiration and I get this lovely image in my inbox. I knew it was meant for me. I decided to share it with you and ask for inspiration from you.
Create Your Own Sacred Space
I’m trying to settle into a routine that creates more peace and tranquility for me and for our new home. One thing I’ve been missing in the last few months is my routine of writing my Morning Pages. I know that’s part of my sacred time. Now to create a sacred space in our new and temporary home. How do I go about that? So I decided to do some research online and share it with you too.
“You might designate an entire room, or maybe a cozy nook in the corner of your bedroom would be perfect. Whatever space you choose, let it be a place where you can rest, re-connect with what is meaningful in your life, and be inspired to pursue your passions.” This is from Apartment Therapy and the article goes on to give some great ideas like using floor pillows and keeping a journal handy.
Gaiam Life suggests many interesting additions like music, plants, pictures of loved ones in their article: Make your sacred space personal. Choose what tastes, sounds, smells, looks and feels good to you. Choose objects that give you energy, inspire you or help you get into the ritual of your meditation, yoga, prayer or other sacred practice.
I’m thinking that my sacred space should appeal to the senses –
- touch – comfortable seating;
- smell- incense, potpourri, scented candles;
- hearing – chants, soft instrumental music;
- sight – inspiring quotes/ pictures, sacred stones.
My journal will be the most important part of my sacred space. I hope to share pictures of my space with you once it’s ready.
Do you have a sacred space in your home? Do share your ideas of what elements I can add to the space.
Hello Corinne,
I love Morning Pages, and do them every day — except I just write one page. I’m too excited to sit still for longer than that, because of flute practice, yoga, running with the dogs, and blogging. It sounds like I’m super busy, but really I’m not.
Sacred space is so important. I have a loft in my home, and though it’s open to the rest of the house, I feel it’s my own place. It’s just me and my husband (and 2 dogs, and cat) at home, so I don’t really need more space than that. Plus he goes to work every day, and I get to work from home 🙂
It’s a pleasure to meet you, and I hope to run into you again here in cyberspace! Or in India…I’ve always dreamed of traveling to India…
In peace and passion,
Laurie

I would have to say that the only sacred space I have is my bed. Not much room here. Not too bad when everyone is out – like now.
Lovely image that you received – thank you for sharing 🙂

Errr..my bed… 😉
No don’t actually have a sacred space but this is a great idea. For weeks I have been thinking of having a little writing corner for myself – just a table and chair…haven’t managed to place it yet!
