I came across the song Big Love, Small Moments when I was creating a reel on Instagram. The lyrics really got to me – big love happens in the small moments.
Heartbeats only happen one at a time, one at a time
You can’t rush a moment so don’t even try, don’t even try
There’s a symphony you’re missing
If you only listen you’ll find…Big magic in the mundane
The big picture in a small frame
Everything is sacred when you take time to notice
Big love happens in the small moments
Big Love Happens In The Small Moments
With the 20 anniversary of Sept 11 just past, there’s been a flood of articles and sharing about that world changing even. I just read a New York Times article on 9/11 : What does it mean to ‘Never Forget‘? One journalist recalls interviewing people on the ground soon after the World Trade Centre was hit. As she was doing this the North Tower started to crumble and she had to run. Since her heels were holding her back, she ran barefoot. People scrambled to get into nearby buildings. The journalist was beckoned into a building, given a wet towel to wipe off the ash, water to drink and the ultimate kindness – one resident gave her a pair of shoes. In all the mayhem and chaos, this kindness was something the journalist always holds on to.
But you can argue that was also a big moment.
What about the small moments in our daily lives. Do we take time to notice? I’m honestly trying to see the big love in the small moments.
A stray dog we’ve been feeding for a year, is still scared of people because of other experiences. When she nudges us with her nose, it’s a small moment -but the trust she displays makes us feel the love.
José buying something he knows I enjoy when he’s out grocery shopping. Or cooking rice for me. Or reminding me to do something for myself. Small though these gestures might seem, these are all moments, when I’m reminded of the love and kindness that is a part of our relationship.
When I get a thoughtful comment on a blog, Facebook or Instagram post, it is a moment that I treasure.
When Lucky, demands a belly rub or looks at us with goo-goo eyes, it’s another such moment.

Your turn now. What are small moments you treasure from recent times?

Here’s the song, in case you’re interested in listening to it.

I firmly concur with you here Corinne. After all there can be only a handful of really BIG happy moments in our lives. But the small ones — we can have as many of them as we want. This is something I practice constantly at home and this is what has kept us all going through the Pandemic.
Sending out a warm Thank You for this reminder.

Yes! I’ll admit that I’ve been mad about a whole lot of things – poor governance, injustice, some extended family issues, but in the end, gratitude, kindness and love are what keeps us going, aren’t they?
I never thought to look back and reflect on the small moments of my day. But I’m going to start! I love the small moments you described. How sweet! When the rescue dog we adopted recently finally stopped being so scared and learned to trust us it made me feel so loved and needed.
What a beautiful post! I agree with you completely, Corinne. These small moments brighten up the nooks and corners of our lives with so much color.

You know how much I agree with you, Corinne! So often we overlook the small moments, taking them for granted or just not really noticing them. But life is made of small moments, little joys, small comforts.

Love this post. I totally agree. Small things, like a dog licking your face or mum calling up to say she has made my favourite dish and is waiting for me to go have lunch with her. My sister-in-law gifting me a money plant for no reason at all.
Small things, big happiness!
Couldn’t agree more, Corinne. Thank you for sharing this beautiful reminder today! It is in the small moments that life happens and all our precious memories are from these everyday moments that come and go almost unnoticed. I think we appreciate them the most when times get really challenging.
