7 Fun Things to Do in Sacramento
Visit California State Railroad Museum
The California State Railroad Museum is on the top of our list and for a good reason! Not only is it one of the most popular museums in California, but it also covers a massive area of 225,000 sq feet with its restored railroad cars and locomotives for you to gawk at! Get yourself here to dive back into the past and discover how railroads played a role in shaping California’s economy. Plus, there are many interactive exhibits and a Railway post office there too!

Check Out the Abandoned Fort

Sutter’s Fort, which is now abandoned, was actually an important trade area in the 19th century, and is believed to have played a crucial role in the development of the city. If you’re someone who likes diving deep into the history of a place, you’ll be hooked here! Most of the rooms here have been restored, and as you walk into each, you can listen to an audio about their stories from the past.
Go Hiking at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center

What could be a better way to explore Sacramento than to get in touch with what it offers outdoors. You can go for a hike or check out one of the many nature talks they have there! No matter what the season is, you’re almost certainly spot deer, turkeys, woodpeckers and other wildlife while you’re here.
Go Cycling on the River Trail

Get yourself to Old Sacramento and hit one of the many bike trails they have! If you don’t have your own bike, you can even rent one there itself, and take yourself on a calming and exhilarating journey to discovering some of the most beautiful scenic views the city has to offer. What’s best is the fact that the trail has all basic amenities you might need- restrooms, public telephones and even water fountains!
Hit the Sacramento Zoo
Sacramento’s Zoo is another top spot to visit if you’re here for a few days, and are looking for an enriching experience on your trip! Initially, the zoo was pretty small, and today, it houses over 400 different animals and birds. Plus, the zoo promises to focus its efforts and energy on conservation of these animals, which is an excellent effort!
Enjoy at Raging Waters

Don’t miss out on a visit to Sacramento’s largest waterpark on your trip here! Raging Water has over 25 water slides and a lot of pools for you to soak into! Plus, the park is located right in the heart of the city, and has a great family friendly restaurant for you to gorge at after all that running around at the park!
Eat Out at The Kitchen

And of course, no trip is complete without sampling some of what the city has to offer, and The Kitchen does it just the right way! Conceived in 1991, the restaurant started out small, and while it may have evolved into one of the most popular dine out places in Sacramento, it still sticks to its concept of farm to fork dining. The restaurant serves food that’s been prepared from produce that’s sourced locally- every single day for the last 20 years of its operation- how cool is that!
It might not be the most reasonably priced place, but the food here is definitely worth it!
