Introduced in February 2013 – an invitation, a prompt, a linky. Write exactly a 100 words on the prompt and publish it on your blog – a story, a poem, a mini-essay. The linky will be open right up to next Friday, after which I will have a new prompt and a fresh linky.
100 Words On Saturday 7 Prompt : MASK/S
Maybe you first tried one on for fun.
Or it was just easier for you
To be the masks you wore
Because being you hurt too much?
Did the masks bring you more acceptance?
Did they make you feel stronger?
Did they bring you love?
Perhaps they did so for a while.
Then you got used to wearing one all the time
Now you feel exposed without a mask.
Masks – you can keep trying different ones
But finally under them all
It’s always You.
So take them off and claim yourself back
Because you are beautiful just being
You.

I guess we all put on masks as and when life calls for it!

I’m going to try and write on this prompt 🙂

You have written a couple of posts lately about honesty/masks. It’s an interesting topic. When you were writing about the man who had an affair and lied about it, I thought immediately about John Edwards. He lied not only to his wife but to the whole country. Masks!
I try to make choices based on the assumption that nothing I do is really secret. After all, I will know. If you believe in God, then God knows, too. Yet, like everyone, I make mistakes. I try to then not make it worse by taking of the mask and letting others see the imperfect person I am!

It would be a wonderful world if we didn’t need masks to hide our true selves at times. The person with whom we don’t need to pretend is our true friend, soul-mate. This is such a lovely poem, Corinne. I will also write on this topic 🙂 soon.
Hi Corinne,
This was a lovely poem on masks. It got me thinking of all the faces we have to put on for a various aspects of our life. However, underneath all the masks there will be a person which will always be the real us.
Thank you.

Knowingly or unknowingly we do mask ourselves and it is a process of growing up. Being authentic is a challenge.
Thanks for the inspiration Corrine!! Your posts are always with positive energy.
Joined in the fun, Corrine!
Loved your take on this 🙂

Corinne, as always, a pleasure to read your work. Though I have to say that I barely use a mask. What you see is what you get. That means rubbing a lot of folks the wrong way, but I guess that cant be always helped.
Indeed finally under them all, it is only You. Love your verse. 🙂

“Masks – you can keep trying different ones
