Movies can be a powerful source of inspiration too. So I thought I'd share from the ones I've watched and liked. This is not meant to be a review of any sort, rather to bring a movie in to focus and share what I liked about it.
So if you're a fan of Jane Austen, like I am, you'll enjoy this one inspired by her early life. It tells of her 'previously untold'romance and her, desire to marry for love which in 1795 England was not encouraged. Her mother advises her to marry for money, for as she says, "Affection is desirable, money is absolutely indispensable.'
Jane dares to fall in love an attempt an elopement thus spurning the offer of marriage from the nephew of a the local patroness, who accuses Jane of independent thought! In Becoming Jane, we see the evolution of a woman who defies social convention, to risk a romance, which was to shape her life and work - which was a social commentary on the times she lived in.
Let me share with you some quotes from the movie that highlight the times Jane Austen lived in.
Tom Lefroy (Jane's lover): How can you, of all people, dispose of yourself without affection?
Jane Austen: How can I dispose of myself with it?
Jane Austen: If I marry, I want it to be out of affection. Like my mother.
Mrs. Austen: And I have to dig my own damn potatoes!
Jane: A woman especially if she had the misfortune of knowing anything should conceal it as well as she can.
Lady Gresham (aunt of Jane's suitor): What is she doing?
Mrs Austen: Writing.
Lady Gresham: Can anything be done about it?
Enjoy the trailer - and like I said, if you like reading Jane Austen, then this is a must-see!
May you be inspired - everyday!
